Calibrations are critical for ensuring accurate vibration results, but not all calibrations are equal. Traditional geophones will drift over time, and materials age, changing their response and resulting in inaccurate results. Annual calibration with tuning is necessary to ensure geophone results remain accurate.
Drift is not an issue with MEMS accelerometers, so calibration means validating that the sensor is performing as built. This means calibration intervals can be pushed to two years or further as project requirements dictate and internal sensor checks continue to pass.
